A robotic massage chair is design to replicate the feeling and therapeutic value of skilled massage therapists and chiropractors. Talking about skills, there are over 200 different massage techniques and styles and about 9 or 10 most popular ones.  The following link is a good reference. http://lifehacker.com/whats-the-difference-between-all-these-types-of-massag-1522088430

Accordingly, there are some popular Massage movements on the modern robotic massage chairs no matter they are called Shiatsu or Swedish massage.

Rolling: It applies constant pressure while moving gently up and down near the spine. It  stretches the spine and relieve the pressure. It warms and loosens your muscles, preparing your back for a deeper massage.

Kneading: It is a circular technique to lift and stretch muscles. Tissue is lifted and rolled away from the bone, and then back towards the bone with a squeezing compressive action. It improves deeper blood and lymph circulation and helps bring vital nutrients to the spinal area, also helps clear out the toxins from muscle and nerve tissue in the area.

Compression: It spreads and applies pressure to deep muscle tissue, forcing it to relax, while the rocking motion loosens spinal joints. Aids in muscle and joint repair due to strain from exercise, long hours bent over a desk, or just day-to-day stress, and can improve mobility and overall posture. Compression induces blood flow to the areas and softens the tissues.

Percussion, or called tapotement: This includes Cupping, Hacking, Plucking, Pounding, Pummelling and Tapping. This movement provided by robotic massage chairs performs alternating rapid-tapping strokes  It stimulates circulation, tone and strengthen muscles, especially the soft tissue areas.

Acupoint, Acupuncture Point: Acupressure is a therapy developed over 5,000 years ago as an important aspect of Asian, especially Chinese, medicine. It uses precise finger placement and pressure over specific points along the body. These points, which follow specific channels, known as meridians, are called Acupoints or Acupuncture points. In the context of robotic massage chairs, the Acupoint actually refers to Acupoint detection system which scans the entire length of the back mapping key pressure points and then the massage chair targets these points following a specific order and chiropractic.

Airbag massage System: Airbag Massage Systems are used to mimic deep tissue Swedish massage. They do this by inflating and deflating in a variety of methods and speeds, essentially compressing and manipulating the muscles and connective tissue. They can work independently or in unison.

Heat Therapy: Heat Therapy is a set of built in heaters that warm, loosen, and prepare the body for massage therapy. They are typically placed in the upper and lower back, as well as the feet. Heat also increases blood flow to the area of effect, which stimulates body’s natural restorative abilities.

Reflexology: Reflexology is an alternative medicine involving application of pressure to the feet and hands. It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that purportedly reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body. The robotic massage chairs with foot/calf massager can do this wonder.
